ASHK Actuarial Innovation Webinar 3
Enabling the Collaborative Power of Actuaries and Data Scientists in Life Insurance
30 June 2020 Virtual Seminar via Zoom
Completed
CPD Hour(s): 1.5
Overview

There is enormous value in the data held by life insurers, and actuaries have been using and making sense of it for many years. Outside the industry, the rapid increase in the volume of data being collected and stored has created a new profession: the data scientist.

In an ideal world, actuaries and data scientists collaborate to bring the best of both disciplines to bear on the challenges life insurers are facing. However, the two professions have tended to work separately, and are often sceptical of the value the other brings.

In this presentation we will consider why this is, what impact it has on life insurers, and what can be done to bridge the gap.
