Overview

What is AI? Understand the basics of what machine learning can and can’t do.

This will be presented by Ms. Nora Li, ASHK Council Member and Committee Chairperson of the Actuarial Innovation Committee. She has been working together with AI experts at the AIA Group as the Innovation Actuary.

Ms. Celine Chiu from the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers will be invited as guest to share a successful use case as a concrete example of how AI can be applied in insurance.

Ms. Nora Li

Nora Li, FSA, FASHK, is a Council member of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong. She is the chairperson for the Actuarial Innovation Committee, Professional Development Committee and the Curriculum & Exam Task Force. She is responsible for the development of the Hong Kong’s first local actuarial exam specifically on its market landscape. She actively participates in promoting the exams, lobbying with the Hong Kong Insurance Authority and writing of the exams.

Nora is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. She works now as an Innovation Actuary at AIA Group. Her experience in various life, health and employee benefits insurance functions as an actuary enables her to easily understand and work to solve problems, specifically now with data scientists using AI and blockchain.

She is also an active participant of the Women’s Foundation mentoring program and lean in groups to cultivate personal and professional growth. With the vision to advocate insurance development and to move forward together as an industry, Nora hopes to promote education in enhancing interoperability within actuarial and across to other non-actuarial departments for a step up.

Ms. Celine Chiu

Ms Celine Chiu joined the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) in 2018 as Manager in Communications & Committee. Having completed university, she begun working for the community as a translator and teacher in Japanese, Chinese and English for elders until she finished her credentials as a veterinary technician. In 2010, Ms Chiu became an external veterinary consultant for a pet insurance company. As she returned to Hong Kong, she joined Aetna Hong Kong Insurance Company and managed complaints and case investigations, and provided compliance training for internal colleagues.

Ms Chiu manages the Life Insurance Council under the HKFI as well as the Insurance Fraud Preventions Claims Database (IFPCD). Apart from being a Project Manager for the IFPCD, she is recently heavily engaged in exploring virtual onboarding sales distribution methods and promoting InsurTech in Hong Kong.

Registration Policy


1.	Registration will only be confirmed upon receipt of full payment, on a first-come, first-served basis. To qualify for any special rate (e.g. early-bird rate), if any, please settle the full payment by the prevailing deadline. Otherwise, the outstanding registration fee will automatically be changed to the regular rate.
2.	For ATM/bank transfer, all bank charges (including any local and overseas charges) should be borne by registrants and cannot be deducted from the registration fee. Please give instructions to your bank to this effect if charges are deducted from the registration fee, the registrant will have to reimburse the difference to the ASHK upon arrival at the event.
3.	An official e-receipt will be sent by email and uploaded to the “Login Area” on the ASHK website (click “Payment History”) within 1-2 weeks after the payment has been verified.
4.	Upon successful registration with payment, registrants will receive a confirmation email. A reminder email will also be sent prior to the event. If registrants did not receive the confirmation email and reminder from the ASHK, it is the registrants’ responsibility to contact the ASHK Office to confirm their seats.
5.	By registering, registrants agree that their personal data provided will be used by the ASHK for administration and management purposes relating to this event and other activities supported by ASHK or relevant to the actuarial profession. Registrants can request not to disclose their personal data and opt out from receiving the ASHK’s general mailings by emailing to the ASHK Office: info@actuaries.org.hk.
6.	An official e-certificate of attendance will be emailed to all registrants who attend the entire webinar and complete the evaluation form and also uploaded to the “Login Area” on the ASHK website (click “CPD Record” > “Event Log & Attendance Certificate”) within 1-2 weeks after the event.

Adverse Weather Policy

Unless specified,
1.	When Typhoon Signal No. 3 or below/ Amber or Red Rainstorm Warning is in force, all events will be held as scheduled.
2.	For events that have not started yet: If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or Black Rainstorm Warning is in force after 7:00 am - morning and/or full-day events that start from 9:00 am will be cancelled. 10:00 am - luncheon events will be cancelled. 12:00 noon - afternoon events that start between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm will be cancelled. 4:00 pm - evening event that start from 6:00 pm will be cancelled. The ASHK will re-schedule the event if possible. If participants cannot join the event on the re-scheduled date, registration fee will be refunded. If the event cannot be re-scheduled, registration fee will be refunded.
3.	For events that are in progress: When Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above is hoisted, the event must be halted immediately. Participants should leave the venue when it is safe to do so. When Black Rainstorm Warning is in force, the event will continue as scheduled. Participants are advised to remain where they are.
