In light of the on-going developments with COVID-19 and after thoughtful discussions, the organizing committee has decided to deliver our Summit scheduled for 25-26 November 2020 as a digital event, in lieu of an in-person event. The safety of our delegates and guests is our top priority. We believe this is the safest approach for the well-being of our audience and look forward to bringing together our finance and actuarial professionals in this new virtual format to learn and connect together.

Currently we are working diligently with our event coordinators and relevant vendors on the conference platform and e-booths. The virtual Summit is with live streaming features. Our speakers would come over to the venue to speak at their respective plenary and break-out sessions which will be broadcasted live. The attendees can enjoy the event online and will be able to partake in interactive and engaging experiences throughout this dynamic platform.

The virtual conference platform we will use comes with interactive exhibition features and includes plentiful opportunities for engagement, all while attendees connect from the comfort and safety of their home or office. Best of all, plenaries and breakout session recordings will be easily accessible on-demand for our attendees at their own convenience.

This two full-day event is truly a breakthrough by combining the ASHK Annual Dinner, Appointed Actuaries Symposium, General Insurance, Pension and Health Seminars. Mr Chan is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a former President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a former Chairman of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Hong Kong.

Before joining the Government, Mr Chan held a number of public service positions including member of the Legislative Council; Chairman of Legal Aid Services Council; Board Member of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority; non-official member of the Strategic Development Commission and Council Member of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr Chan served as Secretary for Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government from July 2012 to January 2017. He was appointed Financial Secretary on 16 January, 2017.

Dr Cheng is currently practising as a Consultant of a law firm, after having served as its Senior Partner for over 20 years. His areas of practice straddle capital markets, corporate governance, regulatory and compliance. He has been actively contributing to the community, and is currently a member of the Financial Leaders Forum and a director of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance of which he is a Fellow. He has also served in various important positions, including the Chairman of the Education Commission, the government-appointed Director on the Board of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, and the founding Vice-Chairman of the Estate Agents Authority.

Mr Cheung has been the Chief Executive Officer of the Insurance Authority since 15 August 2018. He joined the Administrative Service in 1983 and was involved in the formulation and implementation of various government policies. Key positions held by Mr Cheung have included Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore from 1998 to 2001, taking charge of ASEAN affairs and coping with the impact of the Asian Financial Crisis; Commissioner of Insurance from 2006 to 2009, responsible for prudential regulation of authorized insurers during the global financial crisis; Postmaster General from 2009 to 2011, making notable achievements in corporate structuring and business development; Commissioner of Customs and Excise in September 2011, combatting smuggling activities, interdicting drug trafficking, protecting intellectual property rights and safeguarding consumer interests. He became Secretary for the Civil Service in July 2015 before proceeding on retirement in July 2017.

Having been the Chief Executive Officer and Regional Chief Operating Officer of multinational insurers and a reinsurer located in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Vietnam and Thailand, he brings strong leadership and stewardship on key market topics and for the growth and development of the general insurance market in Hong Kong.

Peter Duran, FSA, CERA, MAAA, Ph.D., is Group Senior Actuary at AIA Group Limited, where he is responsible for interfacing with regulators in international and local forums on matters affecting AIA Group. He is also responsible for actuarial policies and is the Group Policyholder Advocate responsible for ensuring fair treatment of customers in policyholder dividend actions.

Prior to joining AIA, Peter was a Director in Deloitte Actuarial in Hong Kong. Prior to that he was a Partner at Ernst & Young where he led the New York actuarial consulting practice and established and led the Tokyo actuarial consulting practice. Peter is President of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong, Chairman of its Professional Matters Committee, Chairman of the ASHK RBC Task Force and a Council Member for the past ten years. He was also the Chairman of the Society of Actuaries’ Greater Asia Committee.

Ken Lau leads FWD in Hong Kong and Macau, driving the delivery of the company’s technology-driven and customer-led strategy, and closely supports the Group’s expansion into the Greater China region.
Ken has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in senior management positions. Prior to joining FWD, Ken was the Chief Executive Officer of Union Life Insurance Co. Ltd. in China and was charged with managing both the life and general insurance businesses.

Prior to that, Ken was with China Ping An Life Insurance Co., Ltd. for more than 10 years in senior management roles leading the company’s core functions including marketing, sales distribution, and provincial branch management, with his most recent position as President from 2012 to 2014. His early career included roles in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan for Prudential and AIA.

Ken has a Bachelor of Science degree (hons.) in Mathematics and Physics from The University of Hong Kong and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

He has worked in the investment management industry since 1985, has been a partner at a number of hedge funds since 1995 and has globally helped managed ~US$3b. Mr Alexander was a Senior Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Management at Macquarie Quantitative Hedge Funds where he worked from 2006 until October 2018 and was involved with the Macquarie Asian Alpha Fund, the Macquarie European Alpha Fund and the Macquarie Americas Alpha Fund. Mr Alexander has primarily lived in Hong Kong since 1990, is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and holds a Bachelor of Economics degree.

He has been Chairman and Vice Chairman of the ASHK Professional Matters Committee over the years running its Professionalism courses and overseeing the audits of the ASHK CPD requirements.

Andrew Au is a Director under the Equities division of Barclays Capital Asia Limited. Based in Hong Kong, Andrew’s primary focus is to provide investment and hedging solutions for equities, funds and quantitative investment strategies to clients in Non-Japan Asia.

Andrew joined Barclays in February 2020. Before joining Barclays, Andrew worked for Société Générale for 17 years where he was the head of the asset management arm and was responsible for the asset management business of the Group for the Asia ex-Japan region. Prior to that, he led the cross asset sales team to cover different financial institutions on distribution and institutional business in the Greater China region. Andrew also has extensive investment banking experience serving insurance companies’ own accounts and separate accounts for both Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Andrew Au graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Finance degree and holds a Master of Science in Investment Management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Andrew is also a CFA charter holder.

Clement Bonnet is a Principal in the Life insurance practice of Milliman based in Hong Kong. He joined the firm in 2009 and moved to Hong Kong in 2012. He has extensive project experience in Europe and Asia in a wide range of actuarial areas including mergers and acquisitions, product strategy, financial projection, capital projection (e.g. Solvency II, RBC, ICS), liability and ALM modelling and appointed actuary related work. Combining his background in engineering and IT, his recent roles involve driving digital transformation at various insurers. He has worked on automation, web applications, data analytics capability development, applying machine learning algorithms to understand customers and agents and rolling out digital tools like Tableau and Python. Bob built the Hong Kong business of CXA Group: a health insurance start-up with lead investor Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook founder.

For over a decade, Bob was the regional CEO of Towers Watson in Asia Pacific. Reporting to the global CEO, he was responsible for all of Towers Watson’s business lines across 22 offices in 13 countries.

Bob is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (London) and holds a First Class Honours degree in Mathematics from Oxford University.

As Executive Vice President, Head of Asia, Tony Cheng has executive oversight of all of RGA’s Asian operations. Tony, who joined RGA in 1997, has more than 20 years of experience in the life insurance industry. Tony started in RGA’s headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, and relocated to Hong Kong in July 2002. In 2004, Tony was named Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong office, responsible for all business activity in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Tony was appointed Senior Vice President, Asia in 2011, when his role expanded to include management of RGA’s Asian business. Prior to his arrival at RGA, Tony served in various senior actuarial and management roles for insurance companies in Australia, Malaysia, the United States and Hong Kong.

Tony received a Bachelor of Economics degree from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, and an M.B.A. degree from Washington University in St. Louis’s John M. Olin School of Business. He became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) in 1997. An active participant in the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong, Tony was elected President in 2008 and served as a council member of the Society from 2005 to 2015. He also served as Chairperson of the Experience Committee and Life Committee.

Ka Hei is a specialist of finance transformation. He has extensive experience on transforming enterprise finance system to adapt regulatory changes such as Solvency II and IFRS 17. From December 2016 to April 2019, Yannick was the InsurTech Solutions for Swiss Re Asia, driving the ideation, design and delivery of technology, innovative digital and data driven solutions for insurers across Asia.

Prior to that role, Yannick was leading the Digital and Innovation practice of KPMG China Advisory helping insurers solving their business pain points with agile and quick testing of emerging technology together with selected tech partners.

Yannick has led the delivery of innovative insurance solutions integrating alternative data and effective customer engagement from technology such as digital health platforms, IoT, wearables, Blockchain/DLT, Smart Car, Smart Home…

Yannick has over 15 years of experience delivering Data Analytics and tech-enabled solutions worldwide. He has been based in Hong Kong since 2010 and is regularly invited to share his experience at technology and insurance industry events. He is also an active member of the HKFI Insurtech taskforce, a mentor to various tech innovators and an ambassador of La Frenchtech across the HK/Shenzhen region.

Chris Hancorn is a Partner in PwC’s Asia Actuarial Services practice, and leads PwC's Hong Kong Actuarial Services team.

Chris has over 25 years of experience in advising insurance companies on risk management, capital management and financial reporting. He also regularly provides advice on risk management and financial modelling to capital-intensive projects in other industries, including infrastructure and energy sector projects.

Chris has extensive experience of advising insurers on the implementation of the new international accounting standard for insurance contracts, ‘IFRS 17’. Since 2013 he has been one of the leading advisers to several multi-national life insurers on their preparations for IFRS 17, and he has led multiple projects for insurers and reinsurers in Europe and Asia covering both life insurance (both participating business and non-participating business) and general insurance.

Chris is a member of PwC’s Global Insurance Accounting Group, which is responsible for developing PwC’s global position on technical interpretation of IFRS 17 and other financial reporting standards relevant to the insurance industry. He is also a member of the Hong Kong Implementation Support Group for IFRS 17 of the Hong Kong Institute of Public Chartered Accountants.

Prior to joining PwC, Chris qualified as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries with The Standard Life Assurance Company where he performed a number of roles in the UK and the Republic of Ireland in product development, distribution and financial management. He is an active member of the actuarial profession in the UK and Hong Kong. He has served on Council of the Faculty of Actuaries and a number of actuarial working parties in the UK and Hong Kong, including the current Risk-Based Capital Taskforce of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong.

David Hughes has 30 years of experience in the life insurance industry. He is responsible for leading Munich Re’s life and health reinsurance business in South East Asia, South Asia, Japan and Korea. He is responsible for providing advice and delivering solutions on strategic and operational matters to clients in relation to their insurance businesses.

David is also responsible for leading Munich Re's Client Management initiatives for Multinational Clients across the Asia Pacific Region. He is based in Hong Kong.

He has held senior positions as Chief Executive Officer, Finance Director, Chief Operating Officer and Business Unit Head for multinational companies in Europe, Hong Kong, India and Singapore. David has significant product, operational and distribution experience including establishing bancassurance arrangements. He has deep and wide experience of joint ventures and distribution agreements between life insurance companies and banks. He has worked for one of the world’s largest advisory firms as a Management Consultant where he was responsible for providing advice and delivering solutions to clients in relation to their insurance businesses.

David is also a Director on the Advisory Boards of a number of Munich Re Group business units.

David is an actuary by profession. He is a Past President of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong and a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK.

Mr. Steve Hui has over 40 years of experience in the financial and insurance services industry and in public services. He has held executive positions in finance, investment, actuarial and IT areas in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Shanghai and Beijing. Before Mr. Hui set up his consulting firm he was the Chief Financial Officer of Citic Prudential Life with its headquarter in Beijing. Prior to that he was the Chief Financial Officer for AIA China for 6 years. Mr Hui is now the advisor to the Hong Kong Insurance Authority on the setting up of the new Solvency Standard in Hong Kong.

Mr Hui was a founding member of the Actuarial Experts Panel set up by China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC). He was the convener of the China Embedded Value task force with the work cumulating to the introduction of EV reporting in China.

Mr. Hui holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master of Science degree in IT. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a Fellow and past President (1999/2000) of CPA Australia, Hong Kong China Division.

He is a current council member of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Rockson has 27 years of banking experience in wholesale & investment banking and risk management with major foreign and local banks in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Prior to joining ZA Bank in May 2019, he was Chief Risk Officer of a listed bank in Hong Kong.

Rockson graduated from NYU Stern School of Business with a Bachelor degree in Finance and International Business.

Garth Jones

Mr. Garth Jones is the Group Chief Financial Officer responsible for leading the Group in all aspects of capital and financial management, as well as managing relationships with key external stakeholders, including independent auditors and actuaries, rating agencies and international accounting and regulatory bodies. He is a director of various companies within the Group, including AIA Co. and AIA International. He joined the Group in April 2011.

Prior to joining the Group, Mr. Jones was the Executive Vice President of China Pacific Life Insurance Co., Ltd., the life insurance arm of China Pacific Insurance (Group) Co., Ltd. He also held a number of senior management positions during 12 years with Prudential Corporation Asia Limited, including Chief Financial Officer of the Asian life insurance operations. Prior to joining Prudential, Mr. Jones led the development of Swiss Re’s Asia life business.

Mr. Jones is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the United Kingdom. On 1 June 2016, he was appointed a member of the industry advisory committee on long term business, which advises the Independent Insurance Authority in Hong Kong. He is a frequent speaker at the CAS’s Course on Professionalism, has served on the Actuarial Standards Board’s Casualty Committee and a taskforce member that helped develop ASOP 28 - “Using Models Outside The Actuary’s Area of Expertise”.

Ron started his career at Aetna Life & Casualty in 1986 and in 1992 joined Tillinghast (a.k.a., Towers Watson), working in the firm’s Hartford, Atlanta and San Francisco offices. In 2009 Ron moved to Hong Kong to help build the firm’s Asian practice which eventually included offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, and Gurgaon. Ron returned to the firm’s San Francisco office in 2012 through 2015 before becoming an independent consultant at RTK Actuarial & Professional Services. His expertise includes reserving, pricing and M&A due diligence. Ron also has specific expertise in construction defects, medical malpractice and catastrophe modeling.

She is currently the global Head of Accounting & Closing L&H at Swiss Re based in Zurich, Switzerland where she and her team are responsible for L&H quarterly closing and reporting activities globally across all accounting bases in Reinsurance Finance as well as IFRS 17 implementation.

Previously Wendy has worked in a variety of actuarial roles across Europe, U.S. and Asia. She provided global oversight to Swiss Re's economic reserves and was instrumental in streamlining Swiss Re's experience study procedures in Continental Europe. From 2014 to 2015, Wendy was the Divisional Operating Officer for the L&H Business Management Division where she oversaw all aspects of the Division's operations. Most recently, Wendy led the L&H Enabling team in Client Service Delivery where she and her team were responsible for global systems, process as well as client analytics and reporting.

Wendy holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan with a scholarship from the Mathematical Association of America and is an MBA candidate from Warwick Business School. Despite her busy career, Wendy makes time to be involved with other organizations. She was a Board member of the SOA from 2017 until recently in October 2020 and has also served in SOA's International Committee and Greater Asia Committee amongst others.

Nick van der Nest is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries with 20 years’ experience in the life insurance and reinsurance industries.

He is currently responsible for product innovation in Munich Re’s Asian markets. He joined Munich Re Singapore in May 2017 and relocated to Hong Kong in May 2019. Current responsibilities include the development of new insurance products and concepts, as well as driving future growth through potential partnerships with InsurTech startups.

He was previously responsible for the end to end management of Risk products at a large South African life insurance company, across multiple distribution channels (including traditional underwritten, emerging markets, direct sales and bancassurance).

She was a member of the Financial Services Development Council (‘FSDC’) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (2013-2019) and was also the Convenor of the FSDC’s New Business Committee. In her roles, Florence had led and contributed to a number of FSDC working groups in presenting recommendations on policy and regulatory reforms affecting the asset and fund management, banking and insurance, sectors. Under this capacity, Terry oversees the investment policy and strategy for approximately USD 15 billion of diversified assets. He is in charge of the general account life fund management and supervise a team of professionals and fund managers to develop investment strategies, strategic asset allocation, hedging strategies and various ALM initiatives.

Terry is a Fellow Member of the Society of Actuaries (US) with over 20 years of extensive experience within the Insurance, Retail Bank and Investment Bank industries. Terry has a broad and deep experience in the insurance industry in Hong Kong covering product pricing, valuation, asset-liability management strategies and investment banking experience.

David is qualified and licensed to practice law by both the Hong Kong Law Society and the Law Society of Ontario, Canada. He is also an Associate of the Society of Actuaries. He is currently an active member of two committees of the Hong Kong Law Society: the Retirement Schemes Committee, and the Insurance Law Committee; having served as chair of the Retirement Schemes Committee for 10 years, until 2019.

David came to Hong Kong in 1997, shortly prior to the launch of Hong Kong’s Mandatory Retirement Schemes system. Prior to that, he was a practicing retirement and pensions lawyer in Toronto, Canada.

Orchis is the General Manager of Gen Re’s Hong Kong Branch. She has more than 20 years of experience in the Hong Kong insurance market, with a focus on product development. Orchis joined Gen Re in 2015 and is responsible for the management of the Hong Kong branch and regional/group offices’ client relationships.
