Medical FWA is a serious threat to medical insurance programs worldwide. By some estimates insurance frauds account for 3-10% of healthcare expenditure in the US market. Meanwhile annually medical frauds cost US insurers over US$80bn each year. This section will review the nature of the problems in detecting frauds as well as the common fraud-combatting technologies. We will also discuss a cutting edge AI-based approach that aspires to revolutionize medical FWA detection.
